A Shift in Technology

Archbishop Oscar Romero High School has begun the process of including exciting technological opportunities for students through the iLearn project. iLearn is an opportunity for students to bring in their own student-owned laptops or tablets for use in the classroom. Students are granted access to the school’s network and are able to access a number of resources for educational purposes. Since students will not be confined to having to use technology in a lab setting, it is hoped that student engagement in their classes will increase and thus, we will see an improvement in their learning and in their skills, better preparing them for the 21st century.

PowerSchool, a student’s record program, which was implemented in the fall of 2009, enhances communication between school and home.  PowerSchool allows students and teachers to access grading and attendance information as well as provides parents an opportunity to discuss with teachers via email their child’s progress. Passwords are available for parents and students by contacting the office. Passwords are also printed on the student’s report card each reporting period. Additionally, Archbishop Oscar Romero High School provides a learning management system (LMS) for student use. The LMS is called Moodle. Teachers use this software to put up assignments, notes, quizzes, and a number of other online resources.
